Panasonic Lumia is releasing firmware 2.2 on October 24, 2023. It's developed for the Lumix S5II and S5IIX. The update delivers a 96-megapixel high-resolution mode designed for hand held shooting.

Current firmware supports the 96 megapixel pixel shift mode, but requires a tripod as one would expect with pixel shift. However, the Lumix GH6 and G9II have the ability to shoot hand held without requiring a tripod

While we still recommend a sturdy tripod for pixel shift regardless of the camera, you can now take handheld long exposure, high resolution, noise reduction photos for up to 8 seconds. Panasonic has always been known for their incredible image stabilization system due to their smaller sensor, but eliminating the need for a tripod when taking high-resolution photos, even when long exposures are required, that's truly impressive.

Panasonic is also adding an AF point scope function that allows you to magnify the focus position when using AF, and manual focus assist is improved, allowing for approximately 20x magnification in full screen mode, allowing for more accurate manual focus.
